Cats descend from desert dwellers, so many barely feel thirsty and drink far too little, which can lead to kidney and urinary trouble later in life. 🐱💧

A few easy tweaks: put several water bowls around the house, away from the food and litter areas; refresh the water daily; and use a wide ceramic or glass bowl so your cat's whiskers don't brush the sides. Lots of cats love running water, so a pet fountain is often worth the spend. Stirring a little warm water into wet food is another sneaky way to boost their intake.

The habit goes all the way back to kittenhood, when cats knead around their mother to get more milk flowing. As adults, they keep doing it whenever they feel safe, relaxed and genuinely content. So if your cat kneads on you, take it as a compliment: you are officially the comfiest spot in the house. It only stings a little when the claws come out, and a folded blanket on your lap fixes that fast.

You're sitting still and suddenly, bonk, your cat presses their head into your hand and then rubs their cheek against you over and over. It's not always a food demand! 🐱

This behavior is called bunting. Cats have scent glands on their cheeks, forehead and chin. When your cat bunts you, they're depositing their scent and marking you as family, as safe and familiar territory. It's honestly one of the sweetest compliments a cat can give you.

Cats also bunt furniture and corners for the same reason. If your cat headbutts you and then settles down right next to you, congratulations, you've been officially accepted.

Our pampered house cats still carry a full hunting instinct 🐱 If yours ambushes your ankles, zooms around at midnight or yells for attention, it may just be missing its daily 'hunt'.
