🐶 Ever feel like your walk is ninety percent standing next to a lamp post while your dog investigates it like a crime scene?
It can test your patience, but for a dog, sniffing is basically reading the morning news. Their noses hold hundreds of millions of scent receptors (we get by with a few million), so one patch of grass tells them who walked past, when, and probably what they had for breakfast. 👃
All that nose work is real mental exercise. A slow fifteen-minute “sniffari” can leave a dog more content and settled than a brisk march around the block, and it's a lovely option for seniors or pups who can't do long distances.
Easy way to try it: a slightly longer leash, a safe quiet route, and a few minutes where your dog picks the direction. Just keep an eye out for anything they might try to snack on off the ground! 🌿
What's the one spot your dog absolutely has to sniff on every walk? Do you do dedicated sniff walks, or mix it in?
