You say “wanna go for a walk?” and there it is – the head tilt, the big round eyes 🐶 It's impossibly cute, but what's actually going on in there?

There are a few likely explanations. Tilting may help a dog pinpoint where a sound is coming from, and it often shows up when they're concentrating on familiar words like a toy's name, “dinner” or “walk”. Some research has even found that dogs who know lots of toy names tilt their heads more often. And let's be honest: they've also learned that a head tilt earns them a whole lot of “awww” 😄

One thing to watch for: if your dog's head stays tilted even when nobody's talking, especially with wobbly walking, head shaking or lots of ear scratching, it could point to an ear or balance problem – time to call the vet.
