Plenty of budgies eat nothing but dry seed their whole lives, which over time leads to vitamin A deficiency and weight gain. Adding fresh vegetables is an easy way to balance things out: spinach, sprouts, grated carrot, kale, and bell pepper are all good picks. Offer fruit like apple (no seeds) and blueberries more sparingly, since they're sugary.
Never give avocado, chocolate, onion, garlic, or tomato leaves - all toxic to birds. Wash the veggies well, chop them small, and remove them after two to three hours so they don't spoil. Your budgie may be suspicious of the strange new food at first - just clip some greens to the cage bars for a few days and curiosity usually wins. 🥬🦜
What veggie is your budgie's favorite? Do you have a picky one who refuses greens like a toddler?
