📦 You buy the plush cat bed. Your cat looks at it, looks at you, and climbs into the box it was shipped in. Sound familiar? 😹
There's actually solid cat logic behind it:
🐱 Walls on every side mean nothing can sneak up from behind, and it's a perfect hideout for ambushing passing ankles.
🐱 Cardboard is a great insulator, and cats like to be cosier than we do.
🐱 Having somewhere to hide lowers stress. Shelter research has found that cats given a hiding box tend to settle into a new environment faster.
So if you've just brought a cat home, moved house, or have a shy one, leaving a couple of boxes around is one of the cheapest comforts you can offer. Do pull off any tape, staples and plastic straps first! ✂️
Is your cat a box addict too? What's the most ridiculously small box they've ever squeezed into? Photos very welcome!
