Bringing a hamster home soon? Save this one! 🐹🏠 A hamster cage should be as large as you can manage, with a floor area of at least 4000 cm², because these little guys run for miles every night. Add 15–20 cm of paper bedding or aspen shavings (skip pine and cedar, which irritate their lungs) so they can dig proper tunnels.
You will also want a solid running wheel wide enough that their back stays straight, a sleeping house, a water bottle, a food dish and a sand bath. Put the cage somewhere quiet, out of direct sun and drafts. Give your new friend 3–4 days to settle before you start handling them. 🥰
What kind of hamster are you getting, a Syrian or a robo? What is your hamster's favourite thing in the cage? Let us know!
